Our new pitch

We have come to the conclusion that our video is not going to plan. So we have decided to change our idea; and add some new footage and shot effects. This will include a shot that was inspired by the Blink 182 video 'Always' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUDCEzfPxw4). We are also going to re film the Bed Scene as the lighting is poor and the room is to cluttered. We are going to toy around with some of the effects that Final Cut offers and see what looks best on our footage. We aim to have our filming done in the three lessons that we have left to film in, and also do one overnight.

Props

For our production we are using hardly any props but what we are using is:

A bed

Tissues

Pyjamas

Dark clothingWe are limiting the amount of props we use to ensure that the viewers attention is mainly on the story of the video and on the main characters.

Ideas for location

A few location ideas of where we can film some scenes of our music video. We were thinking about adding different effects to the setting to make them look better then they are.

Test footage.

We tested two different editing techniques. the first one was using the three shots we took. We cropped them so that you could only see a third of each shot. So we could have different people in each shot, making it look like six different people but they are all doing the same thing at the same time. Unfortunately we did not take the shots at the right height. So the hall looks slightly skewed upwards.

Our second video was made up of two shots taken separately. As this was just a test shot we did not use a lot of people for it. We all walked around to simulate a small crowd. Then we took a second shot of Jacob up against a green screen. This is where we ran into a problem. Due to the lighting the green card had a gradient running down it. Final Cut then picked this up as two separate cards.

Permission to use song

This is an email that we sent to the artist to ask whether we can use their video for our project.
How to analyse a music video...
Andrew Goodwin writing in ‘Dancing in the Distraction Factory’ (Routledge 1992)
  1. Music videos demonstrate genre characteristics (e.g. stage performance in metal video, dance routine for boy/girl band).
  2. There is a relationship between lyrics and visuals (either illustrative, amplifying, contradicting).
  3. There is a relationship between music and visuals (either illustrative, amplifying, contradicting).
  4. The demands of the record label will include the need for lots of close ups of the artist and the artist may develop motifs which recur across their work (a visual style).
  5. There is frequently reference to notion of looking (screens within screens, telescopes, etc) and particularly voyeuristic treatment of the female body.
  6. There is often intertextual reference (to films, tv programmes, other music videos etc).

Location ideas

These are birds eye views of New York. It's very unrealistic that we will be able to film there but ideally this is the scene we would use through out.

This one's of Cambridge which could be possible to achieve but doesn't fit the image we have in our heads for the video.

We picked this image as we liked as it would fit the image that we are trying to portray, the feel of ambience.
